The advent of the Asian Century and shift in the balance of global power is creating unprecedented opportunity for all Australians. Taking advantage of these opportunities requires new forms of interaction with the world on our doorstep, across sovereign borders and cultural boundaries, and an appetite for partnering with and learning from this dynamic region of the world.

The University of Western Australia initiated the In the Zone Conference series in 2009 to create a cross-sectoral, cross-disciplinary and multilateral platform for nationally significant policy debate led by Western Australian thought leaders in the business, government and academic community.

In 2012, the In the Zone Conference attracted numerous internationally renowned speakers including Michael Chaney , Chairman of NAB, Woodside and Gresham Partners, the Hon Colin Barnett, Premier of Western Australia, David Gruen, Asian Century White Paper Task Force member, Pippa Malgrem, President of Principalis or Nev Power, Chief Executive of Fortescue Metals Group.
